PART 1 - GENERAL

1.02 SUBMITTALS

A.    Shop Drawings: Provide for all doors and other related materials specified in this Section. Indicate door construction and reinforcement for hardware.

1.03 PRODUCT HANDLING

A.    Follow special storage and handling requirements of the manufacturer

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS

2.02 MATERIALS

A.  Faces: 16 gauge Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel (HDGS). Prime quality, conforming to ASTM A527 or 1/4" thick steel; prime quality cold-rolled, pickeled, annealed carbon steel sheets conforming to ASTM# 366.

B.  Edges: 12 gauge Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel (HDGS). Prime quality, conforming to ASTM A527 or 1/4" thick steel; prime quality cold-rolled, pickeled, annealed carbon steel sheets conforming to ASTM# 366.

C.  Core: 99.9% Pure Lead Plate per Federal Specification QQ-L-201f, Grade C.

* Reference radiation shielding report for thickness of Lead.

D.  Hardware: Overhead track and hangers: Per door manufacturer's recommendations.

E.  Finish: Galvanized pre-treatment and manufacturer's standard rust inhibitive primer.

GENERAL NOTES:

1. Door size must provide a minimum overlap of 10x the gap between the door and the wall, greater than the clear entrance opening on both vertical edges and at top.

2. Door should be inset a minimum of 2" into a floor trench channel guide to prevent radiation leakage under door.

2.03 FABRICATION

1.    Fabricate doors of solid core construction with one or more continuous unpierced lead sheets to make up total lead thickness as indicated in the radiation shielding report. Apply lead sheet continuously from top to bottom and edge to edge. Lead lining may be constructed in core or between core and steel faces at manufacturer's option.

2.    Fabricate metal work to required profiles for forming and welding exposed edges straight and sharp or radiused.

3.    Fit and fabricate accurately with corner hairline joints and all surfaces free from warp, wave, buckle and other defects.

4    Welding: In accord with AWS Standards. Grind all exposed welds smooth.


PART 3 - QUALITY ASSURANCE

A. Comply with requirements of National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurement (NCRP) Report No. 49 "Structural Shielding Design and Evaluation for Medical Use of X-Rays and Gamma Rays of Energies up to 10MeV" and NCRP Report No. 51.

1. Comply with requirements of local, regulatory agencies where standards and criteria exceed NCRP Report No. 49.

B.    Fabricator Qualifications: Fabricator shall be experienced in and equipped for work of fabrication equal to standards specified herein. The fabricator shall furnish evidence of fabricator having not less than ten (10) years experience in successful fabrication of radiation protection materials, similar to products specified herein.

1.    Fabricator shall furnish proof of insurance certifying Fabricator is specifically insured in the manufacture of X-Ray Protection / Radiation Shielding Materials.

Single Source Responsibility: Provide X-Ray Protection Materials and accessories produced as standard products of Ray-Bar Engineering Corporation, 697 W Foothill Blvd, PO Box 415, Azusa California 91702-0415, Phone (626) 969-1818, a manufacturer regularly engaged in the production of X-Ray Protection Materials.

PART 4 - EXECUTION

4.01 INSTALLATION

A.  Obtain field dimensions as necessary for proper fit.
B. Install doors and finish hardware.
C. Test doors and adjust hardware for proper operation.

4.02 CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of material, manufacturer shall supply a certificate of compliance stating that all materials are in accordance with this specification.
