Shielded Doors

RAY-BAR LEAD LINED SOLID CORE WOOD DOORS are manufactured to National wood work standards, constructed with the finest core, edging and face veneers available. Standard In-Stock veneers are: Rotary Cut Natural Birch, Plain Sliced Red Oak, Hardboard, Rotary Cut Mahogany, Legacy Walnut, Legacy Oak, Mendocino Oak, and all currently produced plastic laminates such as Wilsonart, Formica, Nevamar, Pionite, etc. are available for prompt delivery.

Per the requirements of NCRP Reports # 49 and #147 and other radiation,health and safety codes and general "good practices":

• "All lead lined doors,vision lites,x-ray glass, lead lined frames and lead backed drywall must provide a lead shielding equivalent of equal or greater value as the specific wall or partition they occur in,as specified by the project physicists of record or other "qualified experts"radiation shielding calculations report recommendations and requirements".(customer to verify required lead thickness values and equivalents prior to ordering).
• Doors must be shielded with same lead thickness value (or greater) as partition or wall the door occurs in.
• Doors must be internally shielded with a single sheet of lead covering full height and width of door(or double 1/2 value thicknesses=total value).
• Basically for radiation safety and general medical construction guidelines requires as a "good practices" rule,that the gap at the x-ray room shielded door bottom between the finished floor should always be kept as small as practically and reasonably possible.
• Lead thresholds and / or shielded door sweeps are required at the bottom of the door openings when a gap of 2.5cm ( 1 inch ) or more exists between the bottom of the door and the floor in order to prevent or reduce possible radiation leakage or streaming.
• Door lockset hardware should be lead lined if lead value requirement is more than 1/16" thick,or anytime required in project specifications.
• Any vision lite view window frame occurring in a door must be lead lined and have x-ray safety glass both providing an equivalent (or greater)lead shielding value of protection as in the door it occurs in. (Note:If in a fire rated door an additional layer of clear fire rated ceramic or other approved and labeled glazing is required,such fire-resistant glazing must also be impact resistant and additionally have passed the required hose stream test).
• Any lead glass occurring in a shielded door must be x-ray safety glass and permanently labeled for meeting the impact resistance requirements of ANSI Z97.1 and CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Category 2. (Note:X-ray safety glass is not a"tempered"product, and is readily available from Ray-Bar ).
• Door must have interlock switch so that x-ray machine can not be activated when door is open or ajar,or x-ray machine operation is interrupted if door is inadvertently opened during an x-ray procedure.
• An "X-Ray On" red/white lighted sign over x-ray room door opening on entrance side is recommended to reduce the possibility of personnel opening the door during an x-ray procedure.Light to be tied into machine so as to turn on during any x-ray machine activation.
• Door frame to be hollow metal and lead-lined in same lead thickness value as in surrounding wall or partition,on radiation source side.
• Frame throat to be lead-lined on radiation source side,and well into formed stop area to allow the required 1/2" overlap between door and frame.
• Lead backed drywall must properly overlap into door frame jamb throat a minimum 1/2" to prevent or reduce any possible radiation leakage, and additionally to meet proper fire-rated partition construction and design requirements where required.Any fire-rated lead lined partitions or walls must utilize properly UL classified and labeled lead backed gypsum drywall, such as type "RB-LBG",with the proper lead thickness value in such wall or partition as specified by the medical radiation physicist of record or other "qualified experts" shielding report recommendations.

Lead Lining of Hollow Metal Door Frames available installed in frames or in preformed kits. Line inside of frames with single unpierced strip of sheet lead of not less than same thickness as doors and walls in which installed. Form lead shields around areas prepared to receive hardware. Fabricate lead lining wide enough to maintain an effective overlap with lead adjoining shielding units.

Lead Lined Hollow Metal Swinging Door

RAY-BAR LEAD LINED HOLLOW METAL DOORS are made from premium Hot Dipped Galvanized Steel in 18, 16 and 14 gauge steel conforming to ASTM A527, coating Classification ZF001 with no visible seams on faces or edges. Lead Lined Hollow Metal Doors are "ready to paint" or supplied with plastic laminate on faces. Available non-rated, or with fire-ratings up to 90-minute ("B" label) and up to 3-HOUR fire-rating ("A" label). Listed for fire resistance and meets UL IOC and UBC 7-2-1997 positive pressure test requirements part I and II. Available with or without Lead Lined Vision Lite Frames. Ray-Bar for "Specialty Applications" can also provide lead lined doors as stainless steel (304 with #4 finish), and bullet resistant (UL752) in Level 1 (medium power small arms), Level 2 (high power small arms), Level 3 (super power small arms), and also as a certified Level 4 (high power rifle). RAY-BAR Neutron Shielded Door and Frame

RAY-BAR NEUTRON SHIELDED DOORS, manufactured Lead Lined and/or Borated Polyethylene (BPE) filled cores with steel faces and edges, to customer specifications for over twenty five years. These doors are custom manufactured to suit each individual linear accelerator radiation / oncology project requirement based on linear accelerator energy output, radiation type, orientation to radiation sources, primary beam configuration and overall room design, as either sliding or hinged, swinging doors in new and retrofit applications weighing up to 40,000 lbs. each. RAY-BAR Lead Lined Industrial Sliding Metal Door

RAY-BAR INDUSTRIAL TYPE LEAD LINED DOORS are custom manufactured to meet heavier lead requirements associated with industrial X-Ray or Non-Destructive Testing Rooms.
